Love Is the Drug is an American drama from 2006 . It was directed by Elliott Lester and written by Steve Allison and Wesley Strick .
action
A group of high school students led by Sara Weller and Troy Daniels often have parties where alcohol and other drugs are consumed. The teenagers come from wealthy families.
Jonah Brand, who is friends with Weller, joins the group but is not accepted. It turns out that Brand occasionally works in a pharmacy. Lucas Mitchell, a member of the group, who harassed Brand particularly badly, had the idea that Brand could provide the group with drugs from the pharmacy. Brand hopes this will impress Weller, whom he is becoming increasingly obsessed with. One of the teenagers dies and private investigator Phill Hackwith investigates the case while the police show no interest.
Reviews
Justin Chang wrote in Variety magazine on Feb. 6, 2006, that the film offers a darkly compelling glimpse into the lives of some teenagers and remains free from moralizing. The "sharp" script and the camera work would create tension. However, the ending is melodramatic and seems cheap. The portrayal of Darryl Hannah as Brand's mother is solid.
Ted Fry wrote in the Seattle Times on October 6, 2006 that the "small" and "serious" film was "generally well acted" and terrifyingly realistic. It is almost impossible to identify with one of the teenagers. The "small" roles of Daryl Hannah as an overwhelmed mother and Bruce A. Young as a private investigator are played solidly. The end disturbs.
