Lovex is a six-piece rock band from Tampere , Finland .

history

Career start in Finland

The band was founded in autumn 2001. At the beginning there were Jussi Selo (today Uniklubi ) as singer and Tuomas Rajamäki on drums in the band. Both dropped out in 2003, however, Jussi because he did not want to sing in English, Tuomas are not aware of any reasons. The two were replaced by Torsti Mäkinen, who calls himself Theon in the band, as the singer and the then 15-year-old Juho Järvensivu, who calls himself Julian in the band.

At first Lovex played as a cover band, but then they began to write their own songs relatively quickly.

The first single Bleeding was released on August 10, 2005 in Finland as a pre-release from their debut album Divine Insanity . The single immediately made it to number two in the Finnish single charts. Guardian Angel followed on February 1, 2006 , this single was also the first to be released in Germany. In Finland, the single reached first place in the charts and became one of the most played titles of 2006. The follow-up singles Die A Little More , Remorse and Anyone Anymore also made it into the top 3 of the Finnish single charts. In 2007, Lovex competed with Anyone Anymore at the Euroviisut , the Finnish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . They finished third behind Hanna Pakarinen and Thunderstone .

The band's first album, titled Divine Insanity , was released on March 1, 2006 in Finland. It reached number four in the charts.

International breakthrough

Due to the great success of the band in Finland, record companies outside of Finland also became aware of the band. In December 2006 they were signed by the German record company Gun Records , which among other things also supported the successful Finnish band HIM in their early days in Germany. On January 5, 2007, the single Guardian Angel was released in Germany, followed by Divine Insanity on February 16, and the album was also released in Austria and Switzerland.

The release was followed by two tours during which Lovex played in the Czech Republic as well as in the countries where their album was released. Both tours were a success for the band and this success brought the band's attention to the Japanese record label EMI Toshiba . After the contract was signed, Divine Insanity was released on September 19 in Japan.

In 2008 the band released their second studio album. Pretend or Surrender was released in Finland at the end of April and in Germany and Japan during May. The second album is a bit harder and darker than Divine Insanity . The first single to be released was the song Take A Shot with elements of the 80s , which made it to number 5 in the Finnish charts. It was followed shortly after by the web single Turn . A tour followed in October, during which Lovex not only played in their home country Finland but also in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The first concerts in Russia followed in December, but the band's debut in this country was extremely bad when the concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg had to be postponed due to visa problems.

Since the end of 2008, lead guitarist Sammy Black , who only plays guitars made by Ibanez (preferably seven-string guitars ), has been officially supported by this company.

In February 2009 Lovex released the double single Don't Let Me Fall / Got What I Came For , which was followed in April by the Don't Let Me Fall tour in Germany and Switzerland, at Lovex at seven concerts in five for they played new cities.

On July 28th, 2009 the band announced on their MySpace page that they had separated from their home label EMI Music Finland.

style

Lovex's music is a mixture of alternative - and hard rock . Despite the relatively hard guitar riffs , the songs are very melodic, which is emphasized by the soft voice of the singer Theon. The lyrics are very emotional and often sad. In addition, Theon deliberately only sings in English.
