Ludolf Herrmann
Ludolf Herrmann (born September 17, 1936 in Hirschberg in the Riesengebirge , Lower Silesia ; † February 10, 1986 in Bonn ) was a German journalist and editor .
Life
The son of a teacher and cantor studied theology and philosophy at the University of Bonn after graduating from high school . Already during his studies he worked as a journalist, among other things as an author and editor for the magazine of the Catholic German Student Union and as a press officer for the Association of German Student Unions . During this time, the then CDU General Secretary Bruno Heck became aware of him and in 1968 brought him to the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus as office manager .
In 1972 Herrmann joined the editorial team of the conservative weekly newspaper Deutsche Zeitung - Christ und Welt as head of the political department and one year later became editor-in-chief. After the newspaper was taken over by Rheinische Merkur , he temporarily headed the combined editorial team of the new paper in 1980, before moving to the Gruner + Jahr publishing house in June of the same year , where he succeeded Johannes Gross as chief editor of the Cologne business magazine Capital . In addition, Herrmann was editor-in-chief of the CDU-affiliated monthly Die Politische Demokratie for many years .
Herrmann was considered an opinionated and controversial conservative who, in his comments and books, advocated the “ spiritual-moral turn ” propagated by Helmut Kohl . In particular, his polemics against the peace movement of the time caused a stir . In October 1981, in a guest commentary for the Bavarian Radio, he described Bonn peace demonstrators as “small, rickety souls” in “pimply bodies”. Critics then spoke in the press of an "uncomfortable proximity to the language of the National Socialist striker ".
Ludolf Herrmann died on February 10, 1986 of complications from cancer. He is buried in the castle cemetery in Bonn - Bad Godesberg . Father Heinrich Basilius Streithofen , with whom Herrmann was friends, held the funeral speech .
