Ludovic Spiess

Ludovic Spiess , also Ludovico Spiess (* 13. May 1938 in Cluj , † 29. January 2006 in Drăgăneşti-Vlasca , Teleorman county ) was a Romanian opera n singer (tenor) and politicians .

Life

Spiess first attended the elementary arts school in Brașov , where he appeared as a soloist at the lyric theater from January to September 1962. From 1962 to 1964 the tenor was engaged at the operetta theater in Bucharest and from 1964 to 1988 at the Opera Națională Bucureşti . Spiess also performed regularly abroad. He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1968 as Radames in Aida and sang 11 different roles here on 72 evenings, such as Florestan ("Fidelio"), Canio ("Pagliacci"), Rodolfo ("La Bohème"), Kalaf ("Turandot") , Manrico ("Il trovatore"), singers ("Der Rosenkavalier"), Don Carlo, Cavaradossi ("Tosca"), Dalibor and Gustaf III. ("Un ballo in maschera"). In June 1975 he was last seen as Don Carlo in the Haus am Ring.

Later after his career as a singer, Spiess was director of the international George Enescu Festival . In 1989 he published the book Cu Ludovic Spiess prin teatrele lirice ale lumii in the Editura Muzicală together with the musicologist Iosif Sava . Between October 19, 1991 and November 19, 1992 he was the first culture minister of post-revolutionary free Romania. In 1998 Spiess was President of the Romanian National Committee of UNICEF and from 2001 to 2005 he was General Director of the Opera Națională Bucureşti .

Spiess died of a heart attack on the last day of the 2005/06 hunting season.
