Ludwig Diemer

Ludwig Diemer (born December 5, 1828 in Heidelberg , † April 29, 1894 in Karlsruhe ) was a German architect and construction clerk , who gained importance in particular through his work in the state church building administration in Baden.

Diemer studied at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic , where he joined the Teutonia fraternity . From 1858 to 1860 he toured Italy and Greece . During his travels he made watercolor paintings of important buildings. After his return he was assistant to Heinrich Hübsch for a long time , with whom he had previously studied.

In 1864 Diemer was appointed director of the grand ducal district building inspection in Donaueschingen . In the following year he was appointed head of the Protestant church building inspection in Karlsruhe. Diemer led the renovation of the churches in Lahr ( Lahr collegiate church ), Pforzheim (Martinskirche) and Kenzingen . Under his leadership, new churches were built in Lahr (Christ Church), Eppingen , Sulzfeld , Rheinbischofsheim , Freiburg im Breisgau (Christ Church) , Ettlingen , Gaggenau and Karlsruhe (Johanniskirche).
