Ludwig Duncker (theologian)

Hans Gottfried Ludwig Duncker (born August 17, 1810 in Hamburg , † November 7, 1875 in Göttingen ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor .

Life

Duncker received his early education first at the private institute Lütkens, then switched to the learned school of the Johanneum and finally to the academic high school . In 1829 he went to the University of Göttingen where he studied theology and philosophy. In 1831 he continued his studies at the University of Berlin . In 1834 he returned to Hamburg. There he was a candidate for ministerial office . On October 19, 1836, he received his licentiate in theology in Göttingen . At Easter 1837 he completed his habilitation at the theological faculty and then taught as a private lecturer in theology.

Duncker was appointed associate professor for church history at the University of Göttingen in the fall of 1843 and in 1846 a member of the German Oriental Society . In 1849 he was appointed a full member of the Historical Theological Society in Leipzig . On May 17, 1850 he was awarded an honorary doctorate ( Dr. theol. Hc ) and in 1854 the chair for church and dogma history. In 1860 he was also given the title of consistorial councilor and finally in 1864 the office of Ephorus .
