biography

Hüffell came from an old (proven since 1472) Hessian pastor family. He was the fifth of eight children of Pastor Wilhelm Hüffell (1730–1808) and his wife Theodore Elisabeth Henriette, née. Kriegsmann, (1754–1812) in Waldgirmes near Wetzlar . He attended the pedagogy in Marburg; He then studied philosophy at the university there , then theology in Giessen . In 1806 Hüffell became parish assistant, in 1808 vicar in Gladenbach and in 1817 finally second pastor in Friedberg . Shortly after entering the church service, in 1809 he married Sophie Louise Konradine Doerr (1786-1851), the daughter of the lawyer Johann Jakob Doerr. There were five children from this marriage.

In 1825 he was appointed professor at the seminary in Herborn . In the same year he received honoris causa from the theological faculty of the University of Giessen as Dr. theol. PhD. In 1826, Grand Duke Ludwig was appointed Ministerialrat and Church Councilor in Karlsruhe. After Prelate Johannes Bähr died in 1828, Hüffell became his successor in 1829 and thus spiritual director of the regional church. He held the office of prelate until he retired in 1853. His successor was Carl Christian Ullmann . Hüffell died three years later in Karlsruhe.

Hüffell played a key role in the draft of a Baden Agende submitted in 1830 , which was introduced in 1836. During his full-time job he was also an Ephorus of the Karlsruhe Lyceum.
