Ludwig Schiller (physicist)

Ludwig Schiller (born December 11, 1882 in Reusch near Weigenheim , Middle Franconia ; † August 24, 1961 in Weilburg ) was a German physicist at the University of Leipzig. He was a specialist in airship travel.

Life

Schiller studied from 1901 to 1919 at the Technical University of Munich , the University of Leipzig and the Georg-August University of Göttingen . In 1902 he became a member of the Corps Franconia Munich . In 1911 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1921 he completed his habilitation there in physics and airship travel. From 1921 to 1925 he was a private lecturer for physics and airship travel in Leipzig , from 1925 to 1926 a non-scheduled associate professor , from 1926 to 1945 a scheduled associate professor for applied mechanics and thermodynamics . In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges . In 1945 he was evacuated to Weilburg by the US Army withdrawing from Leipzig. He lived there until 1958 as a private scholar . In 1957 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from RWTH Aachen University . From 1958 to 1961 he was associate professor for applied physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt .
