Ludwig Wagner (born January 30, 1889 in Sauerlach ; † May 5, 1980 in Munich ) was a German educator and local researcher.

Live and act

After graduating from primary school in Sauerlach and secondary school in Rosenheim , Ludwig Wagner attended the study seminar in Freising . At the age of 18 he became an assistant teacher and head of the “Liedertafel” in Bad Reichenhall . It was there that he met his future wife Anna.

After a brief teaching activity at the study seminar in Lauingen, he was employed as a teacher at the elementary school on Plinganserstraße in Sendling in 1912 . At the beginning of the First World War in 1914, Wagner was transferred to the front in France, and later he also fought in Belarus and Romania.

After the end of the war, he found his final professional home from 1919 in the elementary school on St. Anna-Platz in the Munich district of Lehel . There he taught alternately the 7th and 8th grade, most recently as rector. At the same time he was involved in the Munich Teachers' Association (MLLV), of which he was managing director for a number of years. However, he was initially denied further professional recognition because he refused to join the NSDAP . In 1939 he received a position order as a reserve lieutenant , but was subsequently declared unfit for war.

After the Second World War , he was initially responsible as a consultant for the restructuring of the Munich school system before he was appointed school councilor of the 3rd Munich school district with the districts of Neuhausen , Nymphenburg , Obermenzing and Allach in 1946. He was also committed to the re-establishment of the MLLV and headed it as first chairman for five years.

Around 1920 Wagner began researching local history. His special focus was on the history of his birthplace Sauerlach, its immediate surroundings and Lehels. He was also active in the teachers' choir - today's Munich oratorio choir - and in the choir of the parish church of St. Anna im Lehel . Wagner died in 1980 at the age of 91 in Munich and is buried in the Ostfriedhof there.

Honors

In 1958, Wagner received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from the mayor of Munich, Thomas Wimmer, for his local history work. In addition, he was awarded the Karl-Heiss-Medal of the BLLV and the ring of honor for 50 years of active membership in the teacher choir.
