Ludwig of Sarnthein

Ludwig von Sarnthein (born January 4, 1861 in Hermannstadt (today Sibiu, Romania), † February 1, 1914 in Hall in Tirol ) was an Austrian botanist . His full name was Ludwig Graf von Sarnthein zu Rottenbuch, Kellerburg and Kränzelstein. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Sarnth. "

biography

The offspring of the Sarnthein family studied law at the University of Innsbruck . His professional career took him as an administrative officer to Brixen , Trieste , Cortina d'Ampezzo and Innsbruck , where he worked as the kk district commissioner and district captain . As a 20-year-old, he was also interested in botany and roamed the Tyrolean Alps on extensive excursions . His publication activity in various botanical journals culminated in the publication of the almost 6000-page monumental work Flora of the duchy counties of Tyrol, Vorarlberg and the Principality of Liechtenstein (1900-1913) together with Karl Wilhelm von Dalla Torre . He then continued his scientific engagement at the Ferdinandeum until his untimely death.
