Ludwigshöhe (Monte Rosa)
First ascent August 25, 1822 by Ludwig von Welden and companions

The Ludwigshöhe , a mountain peak of the Monte Rosa massif , is 4341  m above sea level. M. is the southernmost four-thousand-meter peak in Switzerland and stands at the border triangle Wallis - Aosta Valley - Piedmont . A side ridge branches off from Ludwigshöhe to the south, which leads over the Schwarzhorn to the Vincent Pyramid and, with its continuation in the Weisshorn ridge, separates the Gressoney valley from the Valsesia .

The first ascent took place on August 25, 1822 by the Austrian military topographer Ludwig von Welden with a companion, who entered the summit for surveying purposes. Although this ascent was initially ignored, the summit was later named after him. According to other sources, Welden named the summit after the canonized French King Louis IX. who died on August 25, 1270, and not by his own first name.
