The Luisengraben is a floodplain ditch connecting the Altmühl in the area of the town of Gunzenhausen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . It drains the shallow, left-hand floodplain of the river near the bank. On the right side of the Altmühl, the Auengraben drains the Naßwiesengraben .

It begins at an altitude of 413  m above sea level. NN south of the Gunzenhausen core town near the sewage treatment plant and next to the B 13 and stretches for about 2.7 kilometers in a south-easterly direction parallel to Altmühl and federal highway 13 through the wide open landscape of the wide valley floodplain . It takes in the water of the Postgraben and Osinggraben from the left , both of which are original Altmühl tributaries, and finally from the right of the Meierlachgraben Auengraben . The water flows southwest of Unterasbach not far from the municipal boundary to Dittenheim at an altitude of 411  m above sea level. NN from the left into a loop of the Altmühl ( location ).

Like the parallel Altmühl, the water only loses around two meters of altitude on its way, which is why the water drains off very slowly. After heavy rainfall, the floodplain is inundated by the masses of water from the overflowing Altmühl.
