Lungtog Gyatsho (born 1805 in Zamtang County , Ngawa , Sichuan ; died March 26, 1815 ) was the ninth Dalai Lama .

Life

The Chinese Emperor Qianlong passed a number of laws in 1792 for the more effective government of Tibet . One of these laws changed the mode of voting for the Dalai Lama. From now on a new Dalai Lama was to be drawn. For this purpose, all children who could be a possible reincarnation of the Dalai Lama should be sought in order to then draw the new Dalai Lama from them.

Since Lungtog Gyatsho had such impressive knowledge of the life of the previous Dalai Lama when he was found, the emperor was asked to make an exception this time. The emperor gave in to this request and Lungtog Gyatsho ascended the throne in the Potala Palace on November 10, 1808 .

Lungtog Gyatsho died on March 26, 1815 at the age of nine, presumably of pneumonia. At that time, there was a conflict over governance in Tibet between the Chinese Emperor and the Tibetan government of Ganden Phodrang (Tib .: dga 'ldan pho brang ).
