Luso is a spa town and a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district of Mealhada , at the southern tip of the Aveiro district .

Luso lies at the foot of the Serra do Buçaco and its nature reserve Mata Nacional do Buaco . It is 7 km from the county seat of Mealhada and about 30 km north of Coimbra .

history

The oldest modern documentation of the place comes from 1064.

In 1810 the place here Battle of Buçaco place where the Napoleonic invasion army under Gen.Massená by a British-Portuguese army under Gen.Wellington was beaten.

Since 1834 Luso has been a separate municipality (freguesia).

At the end of the 19th century, King Carlos built a summer palace here, today's Palácio Hotel do Buçaco (also Hotel Palace Bussaco ). This is how the modern history of the place began as a tourist destination and as a health resort. It was raised to Vila (small town status) in 1937 .
