Life

Lutz Quambusch was born as the son of Hans Albrecht Quambusch and Mathilde Fellguth and has lived in Witten since 1945, interrupted by longer stays abroad . From 1966 to 1968 he studied painting and graphic design with Paul Eliasberg at the State University for Fine Arts (Städelschule) in Frankfurt am Main . This was followed by studies in linguistics , philosophy and Romance studies at the University of Zurich from 1968 to 1971 . At the same time he completed an internship as a goldsmith .

From 1971 to 1979 Lutz Quambusch worked in Burgundy , Stockholm and London as a painter, sculptor and goldsmith. Later came the writing of book objects . In 1980 he moved his main residence back to Witten, where he became increasingly involved in the cultural life of the Ruhrstadt. In the early 1980s he organized four exhibitions on behalf of the city, each with eight Witten artists. With a group of six artists, he organized the “Witten Autumn - the smallest cultural days in Europe” from 1981 to 1985, before he co-founded the Witten Artists Association in 1985, of which he was chairman until 1991. Since 1999 he has been the artistic director of the municipal gallery Haus Herbede .

Lutz Quambusch helped shape Witten's face through paintings and sculptures. He designed the new chain of office for the mayor of the city and was awarded a prize in 2002 as part of the project “Ab to die Mitte”, which aims to revitalize the inner cities of North Rhine-Westphalia through artistic activities. At that time he realized three projects: “Primeval Forest in the City”, “The First Witten Book Fair” and “Sculpture in the City Park”.

In 1988 Lutz Quambusch was awarded the City of Witten's Culture Prize.
