Lycium bosciifolium is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium bosciifolium is a 1.5 to 3 (rarely up to 4) m high, upright, confused growing shrub . Its leaves are almost succulent , hairless and 10 to 30 mm long and 3 to 8 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and usually five-fold, only rarely four-fold. The calyx is tubular to bell-shaped. The calyx tube is 3 to 5 mm long and covered with 0.8 to 1 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is half-egg-shaped and spread, it is dirty-white to greenish-creamy white in color and has purple corolla lobes. The corolla tube has a length of 10 to 16 mm, the corolla lobes are 2 to 3 mm in size.

The fruit is a red, rarely black berry , which is usually elongated, elliptical, and rarely egg-shaped. It becomes 5 to 6 mm long and 3 to 5 mm wide.

Occurrence

The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs there in South Africa in the Northern Cape Province , as well as in Namibia , in the south of Angola and in the southwest of Botswana .

Systematics

Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other ancient world species of the genus. Within this clade, the species is closely related to the species Lycium acutifolium , Lycium eenii , Lycium shawii , Lycium schweinfurthii , Lycium hirsutum and Lycium villosum .
