history

Lyrik am Fluss began in 1995 as a poetic neighborhood festival in the Zurich-Wipkingen community center. The initiator was Rose-Marie Uhlmann, who was responsible for organizing the reading series until 2001. In 2002, the author collective index took over the direction and developed the series of events into a literature festival with international appeal.

From 2003 the events took place in the Badi Unterer Letten directly on the banks of the Limmat and were staged as a "special kind of literary experience ": "Poetry, urban landscape and visual design should work together and make the occasion a sensual event." In fact, the setting was extraordinary: "The author is sitting on a footbridge in the middle of the river, the distance to the audience is bridged by a wireless microphone and two screens that simultaneously put the poet's mouth in perspective."

However, the rapid growth of the festival meant that the organizational effort took on a level that those responsible no longer wanted to do in addition to their own artistic work. Therefore, the successful festival was not continued after 2005.

program

The programming was based on the principle of presenting renowned authors alongside young talent. Only a part of her works could be assigned to the genre of poetry. Rather, the term in the title of the event should emphasize the special poetic charm of the venue.
