March government

The March government or March cabinets are the governments of the states of the German Confederation , which were set up by the sovereign princes in March 1848 to meet some of the demands of the March Revolution .

Most of these March governments replaced conservative ministries and carried out a moderate- liberal change of course, which, however, in the course of the radicalization of the revolution was often not enough to restore internal order. Most of these governments were recalled at the end of 1848 or in the first half of 1849 , as soon as the respective sovereign felt himself strong enough domestically to push through a new, more conservative cabinet.
