history

Münchau was founded around the year 800 by the settlement of Saxon prisoners of war as a hamlet of Schönderling, initially under the name "Saxony" and (later) "Wüstensachsen". Other Saxon foundings were Nappenbach , Schwärzelbach and Staranbach , which has now become desolate , for example near the Heckmühle .

The first known, official mention of Münchau comes from the year 1141, possibly in connection with the Thulba monastery . As part of the community reshuffle in 1818, Münchau became part of the community association with Schönderling.

In 1873 a four meter high cross was built in Münchau; on May 27, 1906, a field chapel with a way of the cross was inaugurated.

In February 1960, the Münchau Water Association was established, which was later dissolved.

On May 1, 1978, Schönderling was incorporated into the Schondra market as part of the municipal reform. Münchau became a district of Schondra.
