Mýrdalur ( isl. "Swampy valley", isl. Mýrdalshreppur ) is an Icelandic community in the region Suðurland . On January 1, 2019, the community had 695 inhabitants.

The municipality, which forms the southern tip of Iceland, borders Mýrdalsjökull in the north . To the west is the town Rangárþing eystra in the east Skaftárhreppur .

history

The parish was established on January 1, 1984 from the rural parishes of Dyrhólahreppur and Hvammshreppur .
