Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur is an Icelandic municipality in the Suðurland region in southern Iceland .

On January 1, 2019, the community had 626 inhabitants.

geography

(North) west of the municipality is Grímsnes- og Grafningshreppur , Bláskógabyggð and Hrunamannahreppur . In the north of the municipality lies the Hofsjökull , south of this the river Miklakvísl . North of the municipality of Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur lies the municipality of Eyjafjarðarsveit , (north-) east of Þingeyjarsveit and the eastern part of Ásahreppur . The river Þjórsá forms the eastern border. The lake Sultartangalón is located in the municipality triangle between the eastern part of Ásahreppur, Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur and Rangárþing ytra . To the southwest of Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur is the western part of Ásahreppur and the municipality of Flói .

history

The municipality Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur was established in 2003 from the independent municipalities Skeiðahreppur and Gnúpverjahreppur . The historic courtyard Stöng is touristy interesting. There are no settlements in the municipality of Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur.
