MIPI Alliance

The MIPI Alliance (Mobile Industry Processor Interface Alliance, MIPI for short) is a company association with the aim of developing and promoting hardware and software interfaces between chipsets and peripheral assemblies such as sensors and displays . The application area includes mobile devices such as smartphones , tablets and laptops , and embedded systems such as televisions and the connected car .

history

MIPI was founded in 2003 by ARM , Nokia , STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments (TI). Within a year, other companies such as Intel , Motorola (later Freescale , now NXP or ON Semiconductor ), Samsung and Philips Semiconductors (now NXP ) joined the consortium. Today it has over 300 members from the mobile device sector from semiconductor manufacturers to OEMs .

The management of the non-profit organization has a board of directors on which the founding members Nokia, STM, TI, the companies Intel, Samsung , Toshiba and Synopsys as well as a representative of the MIPI Alliance are represented.

In addition to the members of the Board of Directors, the MIPI members are divided into “Adoptors” and “Contributors”. "Adoptors" are companies that apply the MIPI specifications and recommendations, while "Contributors" are companies who can actively support the work of MIPI with their know-how and their market position. “Contributors” are more than 50 companies such as Apple , ARM, AMD , Dell , Google and Sony .
