Maciej Łukaszczyk (born March 11, 1934 in Warsaw , † June 2, 2014 in Poznan ) was a Polish pianist .

Life

Łukaszczyk was born in Poland's capital in 1934 . During the German occupation of Poland in World War II, he immersed himself in the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart together with his twin brother Jacek Łukaszczyk (1934–2013) . In the 1950s he studied at the Warsaw Academy of Music with Margerita Trombini-Kazuro (1891–1979), Zbigniew Drzewiecki and Jan Ekier (born August 29, 1913 Kraków, † August 15, 2014 Warsaw), later at the Vienna State Academy with Hans Can . He increasingly dealt with the music of Frédéric Chopin . He made a name for himself as a Chopin interpreter in concerts at home and abroad. He often appeared in a piano duo with his twin brother Jacek.

In 1966 Łukaszczyk came to Darmstadt . There he initially worked as a répétiteur at the Landestheater Darmstadt . In 1970 he founded the Darmstadt Chopin Society , which he headed for 44 years. As a piano teacher he was in the tradition of the Polish Chopin playing. The Chopin Society attracted national attention with concerts, piano competitions under the name of Frédéric Chopin and master classes. Łukaszczyk also worked hard to promote understanding between Poland and Germany.
