Magdalena Grzywa

Magdalena Grzywa (born September 15, 1979 in Czernichów ) is a former Polish biathlete .

Magdalena Grzywa is a student and lives in Czernichów. She has been practicing biathlon since 1998 and has been part of the Polish national team since the following year. The athlete is trained by Adam Kołodziejczyk and starts for AZS AWF Katowice . Grzywa made her international debut in 1998 at the Junior World Championships in Jericho , where her best placement was a 25th place. In the summer of the year she took part in the world championships in summer biathlon in Osrblie and won the bronze medal in the pursuit race. The following season she made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup . After she did not start at the third World Cup station in Oberhof as planned , she started at the fourth station in Ruhpolding in the sprint (85th) and the relay (12th). Shortly afterwards it was used for the first time at the Biathlon World Championships in Kontiolahti . In the sprint she came in 60th place. The Junior World Championships in Pokljuka were more successful . Here Grzywa won bronze in the sprint and with the relay and was fourth in the pursuit.

At the beginning of the next 1999/2000 season , she won World Cup points for the first time in an individual in Hochfilzen , finishing 22nd. The European Championships in Hochfilzen were also very successful for them. After silver in the sprint behind her teammate Magdalena Gwizdoń , she won the title in the pursuit. She was sixth in singles and relay. Again in Hochfilzen in 2000 she achieved her best World Cup placement as 19th in an individual. In Haute-Maurienne , she took part in the European Championships again in 2001 and achieved fourth place in the individual as the best result. At the following World Championships in Pokljuka , she appeared for the only time in all five competitions and achieved her best World Cup placements with 21st place in individual and pursuit. The season ended at the Military World Championships, where she was sixth in the sprint.

She had her next good results a year later again at European Championships. In Kontiolahti , she was eighth in the persecution. In 2003 she achieved a very good result in Ruhpolding with Gwizdon, Wiesław Ziemianin and Tomasz Sikora in the Polish mixed relay as third place. In the summer of that year, Grzywa was fourth in the pursuit in Forni Avoltri at the Summer Biathlon World Championships. She also had her next good results at such an event. In 2006 she reached fifth place in the 3 and 7.5 kilometer sprint, in the 10 kilometer pursuit and eighth place in the 5 kilometer pursuit in Ufa . In 2006 she also took part in her only Olympic Games to date . In Turin she started in the singles and finished 71.

Grzywa was a very good shooter, which is why she often did better in races with frequent shooting (individual, pursuit) than in sprint races.
