Magnus Alexander Ludwig von Güldenstubbe ( Russian : Александр Иванович Гильденштуббе; January 7, 1801 in Kaunifer; † March 23, 1884 in Saint Petersburg , buried in Karmel) was a Russian general , secret council of state and commander of the Moscow military district .

Magnus Alexander came from the Baltic-Swedish noble family Güldenstubbe , who held an outstanding position on the Livonian island of Ösel and owned large estates . His parents were the Russian lieutenant Johann Gustav von Güldenstubbe (1765–1829) and his wife Johanna Luisa von Güldenstubbe (1770–1804), born von Ekesparre, he was the fourth of five sons and single. His paternal great-uncle was the country marshal Johann Gustav von Güldenstubbe (1731–1780).

Military career

Magnus Alexander Ludwig von Güldenstubbe completed his school days in the capital of Arensburg , after which his military career began. From 1814 to 1818 he served in the 1st Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg and was trained as an officer. From 1819 he was a lieutenant in the Volhyn Guard Regiment in Warsaw . His first participation in acts of war took place in 1831 in the rank of captain against the rebellious Poles, he took part in the Battle of Grochów . In 1832 he served as a Colonel in the Guards Regiment and in 1834 he became battalion commander in the Finnish Guards Regiment. He was decommissioned from 1834 to 1836. He was reactivated in the rank of major general in 1843 and served in the Guard Corps. From 1845 to 1848 he was commander of a grenadier brigade and then took over command of the Semyonovskoye bodyguard regiment . Since 1849 he was also the commander of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Guard Infantry Division. In 1852 he was promoted to lieutenant general and commander of the guard reserve battalions. He gained military success in 1854 as commander of the 1st Grenadier Division , which he commanded in the protection of Finland and successfully led the defense of Sveaborg .

In 1855 he became commander of the 1st Guard Infantry Division, in 1859 adjutant general and in 1862 commanding general of the grenadier corps in Moscow . Then in 1864 he was appointed General of the Infantry and Commander of a temporarily deployed III. Reserve corps. From 1864 to 1879 he was the commander of the Moscow military district, after which he was appointed to the Russian State Council.
