Magnus Troest (born June 5, 1987 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish football player .

In 2005 he was voted the best “U-19 player in Denmark” . His older brother Jonas Troest is also a soccer player and is currently under contract with Odense BK in Denmark .

Club career

Youth career

Troest began his career at the age of six in the youth of the small Tårnby Boldklub , before moving to the two traditional training clubs Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and B.93 from his hometown of Copenhagen. During his youth at B.93 he advanced to the U-16 junior international of his country and was soon considered to be a great defensive talent.

In 2003, at the age of sixteen, he received an offer from the English Premier League club Aston Villa , which he accepted. As a result, he played almost two years in the youth of the Villans , but without being considered for the professional team.

In 2005, he returned home to FC Midtjylland in the SAS league .

FC Midtjylland

With the clear goal of gaining a foothold in professional football, he then went into his first season at Midtjylland, but spent the first third of the season on the bench or in the club's youth department. It was not until October 26, 2005 that he made his senior team debut for the last ten minutes in the home game against FC Nordsjælland . Only in the second half of the season he was able to prevail against Marc Møller and Winston Reid , who were his direct competitors for a regular place, and subsequently formed the club's central defense together with Jesper Mikkelsen.

In the 2006/07 season he caused a little sensation with the team when they played for the title in the SAS league for a long time and ended up runner-up. The team, which managed almost without veterans, was certified in the run-up to the season with talent, but they had been classified more in the middle of the league. In addition to Troest, players such as Dennis Sørensen , Mikkel Thygesen , Leon Jessen or Simon Poulsen advanced from talents to top players in the league and attracted the interest of various larger clubs.

In the 2007/08 season the club then lost a large part of its top performers to clubs in stronger European leagues, which again meant that it was classified as an outsider for the title fight. Contrary to expectations, the team played again for the title and prolonged the performance of the previous year with the repeated runner-up title. The showpiece of the team was the newly formed defense, which, led by a formidable consolation, allowed the fewest goals conceded in the league. The departure of Mikkelsen was compensated for with Simon Kjær , a talent from his own youth who harmonized perfectly with Troest. With Jessen and Kolja Afriyie on the wing, they formed the league's youngest defensive line.

After the outstanding season, Troest was able to choose from offers from various international clubs and could no longer be held for Midtjylland. Because of the best opportunities he decided to move to Serie B for Parma FC .

Parma FC

In Parma, who had just been relegated after eighteen years of excellence, he did not get beyond the role of the joker until the seventeenth round, before he scored the decisive goal for a 1-0 win against US Avellino on his debut in the star formation with a header . As a result, he formed one of the strongest central defender duos in the league with Alessandro Lucarelli , which played a major role in the club's immediate resurgence. With the defensive as a showpiece, Parma finished second behind champions AS Bari with at least conceded goals at the end of the season .

After the excellent debut season in Italy, Troest was unstoppable for the financially weak Parma and switched to CFC Genoa . Genoa had owned half of the player's transfer rights since his move to Parma and acquired him completely after he had convinced.

Recreativo Huelva

Due to the large number of defenders in the squad and the associated low chances of playing time, the club tried to sell him profitably. After a desired move to Fulham FC failed, however, it was then given with an option to buy to Recreativo Huelva, which had just recently been relegated from the top class , just like Parma . In Huelva, which also started the season with the clear goal of immediate promotion, this was followed by stagnation in performance. Troest, brought in as a replacement for the defensive star Beto who had returned home with great praise , had a regular place for the entire season, but did not meet the high expectations. After Recreativo clearly failed to rise again as ninth in the table in no man's land, there was no money for a firm commitment of the player, after which he returned to Genoa.

Atalanta Bergamo

In Genoa, coach Gian Piero Gasperini still had no place in the team's professional squad after signing a total of four new defenders, whereupon Troest was given up again on loan to Serie A relegated Atalanta Bergamo . This is the third time in a row that he is in the squad of a first division relegated.

National team

From 2002 to 2008 Troest went through all of Denmark's junior teams, but could not qualify with any team for a major tournament.

On October 10, 2006, he made his debut in a 2-1 win in the friendly against the Netherlands at the side of his brother Jonas in the Danish U-21 national team . His debut was also his older brother's last game for the U-21 team. In the U-21 he was the second captain behind Michael Jakobsen , but only led the team once onto the field due to his absence.

In total, he completed 41 youth international matches for Denmark, in which he was able to score five goals.
