Mahir Agva (born June 26, 1996 in Reutlingen ) is a German basketball player . He has been under contract with the Turkish club Karşıyaka SK since 2020 .

Agva began his career with the German first division club Tigers Tübingen, for whom he made his debut in the top German division at the age of 16 ½ years. After this one operation, however, Agva first moved to the second division erdgas Ehingen for the following season, with whose youth team Team Urspring he was runner-up in 2014 in the youth basketball league (NBBL). With the German U18 team in summer 2014, he was promoted back to Division A of the best European teams and was selected as one of the top five players in the “All-Tournament Team” of the qualifying tournament. After the Ehinger's descent from the ProA had already been determined in spring 2015 , Agva moved back to Tübingen, where he successfully supported the Walter Tigers in their fight to stay in the basketball league .

Career

Agva, whose Kurdish parents come from the southeast of Turkey, began his career at TSG Reutlingen in his hometown and in 2011 switched to the youth teams of German first division club Walter Tigers from Tübingen . In addition to his appearances in the youth basketball league (JBBL), Agva already played six times in the junior team in the youth basketball league (NBBL) in the 2011/12 season . In the following season, in which Agva was only allowed to play in the NBBL in terms of age, at the end of February 2012 he was the third youngest player ever to play in the men's team in the top German basketball league at the age of 16½ years . After the end of the season, however, he moved to the second division club TSG erdgas from Ehingen , whose junior team from the cooperation partner of the Urspring School is one of the dominant teams in the NBBL with five championships in seven previous events. However, the defending champion Team Urspring lost the final game at the NBBL Top Four 2014 against the offspring of the first division club Alba Berlin , which was the team's only defeat that season. At the U18 European Championship in Division B in summer 2014, Agva won the tournament with the German U18 team and was promoted back to Division A of the best European teams; Together with his teammate Andreas Obst , Agva was appointed to the selection of the five best players of the tournament in the "All-Tournament Team". In January 2015, as in the previous year, Agva was invited to the NBBL's All-Star Game and was the top scorer of the southern selection, which this time lost.

After moving to Ehingen in 2013, Agva was also regularly used in the men's team in the second-highest division ProA . With the hangers he reached the third main round place in the ProA 2013/14 and the historically best position of the men's team, but already in the first play-off round for promotion they were eliminated against the sixth rent4office Nuremberg . The long-time successful coach Ralph Junge moved to this club and the Ehinger found themselves fighting for relegation in the ProA 2014/15 . Nevertheless, Agva, who was also in action in the NBBL, was honored three times as Youngster of the Month in the second highest division. After the relegation of Ehinger was practically unavoidable and the NBBL team surprisingly eliminated in the first play-off round and missed the top four for the first time, Agva moved back to the Tübingen first division squad at the end of March 2015. With the Walter Tigers, he was able to ensure relegation in the basketball Bundesliga in 2014/15 and 2015/2016 .

With the U20 national team, he finished fourth at the 2016 European Championship. In August 2016, Bundesliga competitor Frankfurt Skyliners Agva's commitment. He left Frankfurt after a year in the direction of their rival Giessen 46ers . In August 2017 he took part in the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei with the German national student team.

After averaging 8.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per encounter in 34 Bundesliga games for Gießen in the 2018/19 season, Agva ventured abroad during the 2019 summer break when he signed a contract with the Turkish club Darüşşafaka SK Istanbul signed. In 23 league games during the 2019/20 season, he averaged three points and 2.6 rebounds for Darüşşafaka. In summer 2020 he moved to Karşıyaka SK in Izmir .
