history
The company was founded in Stuttgart in 1948 as the Kurt Mair Cartographic Institute and specialized in road cartography and small-scale maps . The first Shell atlas and the first ADAC maps appeared in 1950. From 1952 the company traded as Mairs Geographischer Verlag Kurt Mair . In 1952 the company moved into the new building on Spittlerstrasse in Stuttgart. In 1972 the publishing house and printer moved to Ostfildern. In 1994 the construction of a logistics center in Ulm began, which went into operation in 1995.
In 1998, the Falk publishing group , which was the leader in city maps, was taken over. In 2004 Mairs Geographischer Verlag signed the agreement to take over DuMont Reiseverlag, the most important division of DuMont Buchverlag since the 1970s , in Cologne . At the same time, the publishing house M. DuMont Schauberg took a 10% stake in Mairs Geographisches Verlag. Therefore, on January 1, 2005, it was renamed MairDumont . In 2007 the geographical publisher Ravenstein was bought, the three locations closed and all 150 employees made redundant.
