One morning Malcolm is sent to the headmaster's office during class, where trust teacher Caroline Miller awaits him and carries out an intelligence test with him, which he passes very well. On the same day he goes to a meeting arranged by his mother to meet Stevie, a gifted man who is in a wheelchair. At first the two are bored, but they have one thing in common in that they love to read comics. The next Saturday morning, the teacher who carried out the intelligence test with Malcolm rings the doorbell and tells his mother Lois something about it. Days later, Lois tells the family that it was found out that Malcolm has an IQ of 165 and will now be moving to a gifted class. Although he is reluctant, he has no choice and still changes. On the very first day, Malcolm noticed how difficult it was as a gifted person. During the break he takes on Dave Spath, a school thug, but tricks him together with his new classmate Stevie and is celebrated as a hero.
2 2 Lois sees red Red dress Jan 16, 2000 Oct. 1, 2001 Arlene Sanford Alan J. Higgins 06-99-103
On her wedding day, Lois is in the process of getting dressed when she discovers her red dress in the toilet that she wanted to put on for dinner with Hal. Enraged by the fact that it was burned, she tries to find out who was responsible and punishes Malcolm, Reese and Dewey with excruciating methods. Since the children no longer want to bear this, they call Francis, who is currently at the military academy, and ask him for advice. With his help they manage to survive Lois' punishments. Meanwhile, Hal is waiting for Lois in the planned restaurant and is about to leave after a while, when he befriends an employee in the toilet and has fun with him all evening in the restaurant. At the same time, the boys and Francis are on the phone again, but are surprised by Lois, who accidentally noticed this while picking up the second phone in the house. She then accuses him of not inciting her against her and questioning her authority. Francis instructs her not to get upset about something like this on her wedding day. Eventually she realizes that it was all a mistake and drives away with the children to eat.

A few hours later - when Lois and the children are still not back - Hal comes back home and lights a cigar on the sofa. As a result, he accidentally kindles a small fire, whereupon he announces "Not again." And washed something down, which probably suggests that he was the one who burned Lois' dress.

The first broadcast of this episode saw 23.2 million television viewers.

3 3 Alone at home Home Alone 4 Jan. 23, 2000 Oct 8, 2001 Todd Holland Michael Glouberman & Andrew Orenstein 06-99-106
Francis comes to visit for a few days to take care of the boys when Hal and Lois are at a relative's wedding. While they are packing up, Malcolm overhears a conversation between the two, in which they think they would consider bringing Francis back home after this weekend. Malcolm is excited about it and tells his two brothers about it. They decide not to do anything bad this weekend, but they don't want to tell Francis because they hate the rules. After her parents leave, Francis wants to start doing nonsense again, but is prevented by the three of them. But then Francis lets three of his friends celebrate a party at his parents' house, in which the entire house is devastated. Since Francis still does not want to clean up, he is told by his brothers that their parents plan to bring him back if he behaves well this weekend. As a result, they clean up the entire house again, but find that it is a bit too neat for their circumstances and so dirty it again easily. As Malcolm is just about to distribute crumbs of potato chips on a shelf, the shelf falls over and injures his forehead. They also drive to the hospital and have Malcolm's forehead sewn. But since the treatment costs $ 400, which they would have to pay immediately so that their parents didn't find out, they called Caroline Miller, Malcolm's teacher, and asked if she could pay the money. She initially asserts that she cannot bear the costs, but finally gives in and pays the money for the treatment. At the same time, Hal and Lois are at the wedding of relatives and are rekindling their love, which even disrupts the wedding.

Although her parents are delighted with Francis' taking care of the boys days after they return, they make no decision to bring him back home.

From this episode, the title song Boss of Me by the band They Might Be Giants will be shown in a rockier version in the opening credits, which will be retained until the end of the series.

But when the day of the marathon finally arrived, he slipped at the start and could no longer run. In the evening Malcolm is still depressed, but is told by his mother how important it is to have a conscience.

Meanwhile, Commander Spangler frightened all the students of the military academy with slides of sick women so that they would no longer be distracted by some. 5 5 An almost perfect family Malcolm babysits Feb 13, 2000 Oct 22, 2001 Jeff Melman Maggie Bandur & Pang-Ni Landrum 06-99-105
Malcolm takes a babysitting job with a wealthy family and is delighted with her. Because of an insect infestation in Malcolm's house, the family has to move to a trailer in the garden. This narrowness drives Hal and Lois so mad that they argue and Hal has to sleep in the garden. Malcolm now finds his own family so embarrassed that he spends most of the day in the wealthy family's home. As he was taking care of the children again, as he so often did, he happened to notice that his parents were secretly filming him with hidden cameras and quit his job immediately.

When the children are asleep, Hal remembers that the reason they kept arguing with Lois was that they couldn't have sex in the trailer. He then buys two breathing masks with which the two go into the house, which is filled with toxic fumes, in order to be undisturbed there.
Meanwhile, Francis and his friend find the body of a former janitor with Commander Spangler's master key in an unknown room of the military academy. Francis accidentally separates the corpse's head from the body. Francis then wants to pay his last respects to the corpse and sets it on fire together with the other students, but accidentally destroys a boathouse.

Therefore, Malcolm has to send him back very complained. Suddenly they discover the two who stole the wheelchair on a street. In order to run after the two of them, Malcolm lets go of Stevie, who is sitting in a shopping cart, while running, causing him to fall onto the street but not injure himself. Finally, as they walk back, they notice a large police presence in front of Stevie's house. To avoid getting caught, Malcolm leaves him standing in front of the house and runs home.

Meanwhile, Reese does everything at home to convince his parents to leave him up long enough to watch the movie Chucky on TV. To prove himself, his parents set him the task of bathing Dewey, dressing him and putting him to bed. This turns out to be more difficult than previously thought, since Dewey does not want to be told. Eventually Reese is so tired from the exertion that he falls asleep while Dewey watches Chucky on TV and her parents Hal and Lois act out their sex fantasies.

At the same time, Francis takes on fraternities at the military academy by preventing them from cruelly punishing other students at the academy. They then try everything to get revenge on him. Francis is madly in love with the prostitute Beebee, which is why he escapes from the military academy. One morning, while carrying out the garbage, Malcolm accidentally discovers a secret lead that leads him to Francis, who has for the time being nested behind the house. From now on, Malcolm has to secretly get food for him so that no one finds out about it. Meanwhile, Dewey is told by his brothers that a monster lives under his bed. Since Malcolm promises to be at the dinner table, Lois finds out that Francis is in town, but is told a wrong place from him, where Francis and Beebee supposedly want to meet. After Malcolm tells Francis this, Dewey in the garden asks him who he was talking to behind the fence. Malcolm claims there is another monster that is there. While Lois is in the wrong place, a football field, to meet Francis and disturbing other couples in love, he is dumped at the right meeting place, behind the garden of his parents' house, by his girlfriend Beebee. Dewey is still in the garden at the same time, hears Francis' screams and sees them as those of a monster. To chase this away he throws stones over the fence - not knowing that they will hurt Francis. Ultimately, his father, Hal, drives him back to the military academy.

Meanwhile, Reese tries to beat up some of the gifted, but is surprised by one of her big brothers and harassed himself. Meanwhile, Hal grills meat, although all gifted children are allergic to it. To avoid having to perform at the festival himself, Malcolm builds a bomb out of Stevie's chemicals. Shortly afterwards, chaos breaks out when the children notice that they are eating meat. When Malcolm's bomb went off, everyone at the festival ran wild. Malcolm's teacher, Caroline Miller, is so depressed that Malcolm decides to put on his show. With this he inspires all visitors, which is why the festival was ultimately a success.
9 9 Nothing going on without moss Lois vs. Evil 19 Mar 2000 Nov 19, 2001 Todd Holland Jack Amiel & Michael Begler 06-99-104
Reese, Malcolm and Dewey want to pick Lois up from their place of work in the Lucky Aide . But shortly after they arrived, Reese and Malcolm lather part of the shop with a foam cleaner, for which they are punished. At home, it turns out that Dewey took a bottle of cognac from the store. Although they immediately return the bottle, Lois is fired. Since this money is now missing, the family has to implement drastic austerity measures. One morning Julie Houlerman wants to swap food with Malcolm, but fails because Malcolm does not have normal food with him. When he then complains to Stevie about the fact that his family has little money, he initially does not notice Julie, who is standing behind him and wants to give him his bag, which he left behind, so she overhears everything. On the same day, Craig rings the doorbell at the family house and tells Lois that, according to the boss, she could have her job again if she accepts a lot for it, which she refuses with thanks. Days later, Reese, Malcolm and Dewey are surprised by Caroline Miller and other classmates of the school with collected food, because they noticed that the family currently has very little money. When Hal later eats moldy peaches from a can, he is admitted to the hospital. There it turns out that his treatment costs several thousand dollars. Because of this, Lois has no choice and gets her job again by revealing the secret offenses of her superior, which is why he has to quit.

At the same time, Francis begins a military academy job at a beauty pageant. There, however, the women performing believe that he is gay. After Francis also claims this, he says to one of the women that he can change, whereupon she puts him in a course that wants to make his homosexual participants into heterosexuals.

10 10 Stock car racing Stock car races Apr 2, 2000 Nov 26, 2001 Todd Holland David Richardson 06-99-102
When Malcolm gets up in the morning, he doesn't feel like having to square dance with the other talented students at school. He plans to skip today, but is prevented from his father wanting to drive him to school with his brothers. However, he has something else in mind: He drives the boys to a stock car race , where he wants to see the last race of the racing legend Rusty Malcolm with them.

In the meantime, Lois is tidying up the house and discovers stressful objects belonging to the individual children. During their work, Malcolm's teacher comes by and tells her that he wasn't at school today and chat with each other afterwards. At first, the children are not enthusiastic about the dozen of racing laps on the race track. So they decide to do some nonsense, but are promptly caught by a police officer. After an attempt to escape fails, they are summoned to their father at the exit of the racetrack. However, he wants to run away as quickly as possible and runs with them to the car. When she arrives at home, Lois is waiting for her with evidence of her punishment.

Meanwhile, Francis is caught smoking in the military academy and also messes with other students. After a fight, he wants revenge on them with a snake that he keeps in his room. After she escapes, she eats the commandant's dog, who immediately finds out that Francis is the culprit. He leaves the other cadets up to how they can take revenge on him. However, they thank him for killing the dog because they hated him.

11 11 The scapegoat Funeral Apr 9, 2000 Dec 3, 2001 Arlene Sanford Maggie Bandur & Pang-Ni Landrum 06-99-111
Because of an upcoming funeral for his aunt, Malcolm has to cancel a meeting with Julie Houlerman at a concert and is clearly not enthusiastic about it. Otherwise Hal would rather listen to his old records and play Dewey with the friend he brought with him. Only Reese wants to take a toy intended for Dewey as a birthday present, as he accidentally destroyed it, and put it in the coffin. When Malcolm learns from his father that his late aunt was a nasty woman who no one liked, he calls Julie one more time and tells her that he wants to come to the concert. In order not to have to come along, he tries to lie to his mother, but fails. Thereupon Hal and Lois argue, whereupon chaos breaks out in the house, because Lois thinks she can do what she wants like everyone else. Shortly thereafter, Julie Houlerman enters the family's now dirty house and flies over a cable stretched by Hal into the garbage that Reese spilled on the floor. As a result, she's so upset that she doesn't want anything more to do with Malcolm. In the end, Malcolm reveals to his parents that Reese only wanted to go to the funeral to make Dewey's ruined gift disappear. Finally, the family goes to the funeral, where Reese is punished by having to stand on the wall of the church.
12 12 cheerleader cheerleader Apr 16, 2000 Dec 10, 2001 Todd Holland Dan Kopelman 06-99-112
Reese is in love with a cheerleader named Wendy and wants her to notice him. To achieve this, he joins the cheerleaders. Initially, however, the plan does not work because it is clumsy and can hardly remember the steps. Malcolm then explains how easy it is to learn these and trains with him. But his plan does not work because it is still difficult for him to talk to Wendy. However, he can finally overcome himself and talks to her, whereupon he realizes that she likes him too.

In the meantime, Francis takes on Commander Spangler again at the military academy by releasing frogs from the biology lab. But he finds a lot in common between himself and himself as a young man. The two then have a long conversation, which Francis completely misunderstands, which is why they argue. This extends the conversation even further, at the end of which Spangler is just as distant as before.

13 13 Roller skates Roller skates Apr 30, 2000 Dec 17, 2001 Ken Kwapis Alan J. Higgins 06-99-108
Since the neighborhood kids are playing roller skate hockey on the street and Malcolm is the only one who can't roller skate, he decides to learn. His father was a very good skater a few years ago and already taught Francis and Reese, but neither of them wants to tell about it. He overcomes himself and asks his father to teach him to skate. The lessons seem too harsh to Malcolm, which is why he argues with his father, even insults him with a swear word and ends the lesson. But after Hal explains to his son that words can hurt, he successfully teaches his son to skate.

At the military academy, Francis has no desire for survival training in the forest. In order to avoid it, he fakes a hereditary disease and does not have to participate in training. When the dizziness was discovered, the other students left him tied up in the forest for three days.

14th 14th The killer robot The Bots and the Bees May 7, 2000 Jan. 5, 2002 Chris Koch Alan J. Higgins & David Richardson 06-00-202
Lois has to go to Francis at the military academy for a few days because he had an operation on his appendix. Malcolm and his friends want to take advantage of this by building a killer robot. His father is okay with building a normal robot, but Malcolm doesn't ask if he can build one. Surprisingly, he even supports her in building the killer robot and shows himself to be unusually technically gifted. Because he wants to build the robot even more bloodthirsty than Malcolm's friends had previously thought, they want to withdraw from the project. Hal's plan is to use the robot to shoot bees. A short time later, when Craig walks into the family home to bring Lois' paycheck, Malcolm asks him to talk to Hal, as the house is currently in chaos. Craig tries to do this, but it turns into an argument. When Hal then goes completely crazy and wants to quit his job, Malcolm turns the robot against his father, who is then wrapped in thousands of bees.

At the same time, Lois arrives at the military academy, which Francis actually wanted to use to show his classmates how strict and cold-hearted his mother supposedly is. But his plan doesn't work, because she even takes on the hated commander Spangler, which Francis' comrades find brave. She is very caring towards Francis and in the meantime has fun with the students at the academy. Francis' friends see this as proof that he is only telling lies about his supposedly very strict mother. He then argues with her about why she wants to leave again. They spend the last few hours reconciled with watching a gay rodeo.

15th 15th Sunday again and again Smunday May 14, 2000 Jan. 12, 2002 Jeff Melman Michael Glouberman & Andrew Orenstein 06-00-201
Two months ago, the boys hatched another prank for which they received house arrest. On the last weekend of the sentence, Lois caught the flu and slept for two days. When Father Hal is already out of the house on Monday morning, Malcolm and his brothers want to go to school, but they find that their mother thinks it is still Sunday. They sense their chance and stay at home, but are bored because their father took the television cable with him. By chance they notice that Lois subconsciously tells them a lot in bed. So they also learn that they were betrayed by their brother Francis in the last prank. When they call him, they want to find out whether this is really true, whereupon he admits it. They then threaten to give their mother a letter that would incriminate Francis. In response to this threat, he sends some of his friends who are currently in town to his family's house. They then search the house for the letter and find it by Reese looking at the DVD recorder on which the letter is located. When Francis' friends run away afterwards, Malcolm explains to his brothers that this letter was just a forgery and that he had given the original to Dewey. Since Dewey has put this under Lois' pillow, she finds it and is angry with Francis. To make amends and to distract her mother from Francis' offense, they come up with something even worse.

Meanwhile, while driving to his job, Hal notices a car dealer selling fine cars. He walks into the store and is so taken with the cars that he completely forgets to drive to his place of work. He is about to buy a car, but abandons the purchase at the last second because he is sick. However, the seller insists that he should sit down in the car again and test drive, whereupon he breaks into the car.
In the afternoon, the three boys let a small car with paint buckets roll off the roof, which falls on Hal, who has just been driven into a noble car, and his seller. The boys stay on the roof until evening to avoid the punishment of their mother, who has since forgotten what Francis did.

16 16 Water features Water Park (1) May 21, 2000 Jan. 19, 2002 Ken Kwapis Maggie Bandur & Pang-Ni Landrum 06-00-203
The whole family is overjoyed because father Hal has bought tickets for the water slide park. But Dewey is the only one who is not allowed to come because he has an ear infection and has to be looked after by a babysitter. To Malcolm's regret, Reese reminds his parents that he has to wear a nose clip in the swimming pool. In order to get revenge, Malcolm exposes him in front of his crush April. As a result, a quarrel breaks out between the two, which their parents Lois and Hal get up close and personal. They war and annoy each other in the period that follows. Eventually Reese chases Malcolm up to a large slide in the park. But her mother follows her and teaches her about her behavior while standing in front of the slide. But when Malcolm gets too stressful, he pushes her into the slide, whereupon it falls in, but can still pull the two brothers into it, in which she yells at the boys.

Meanwhile, Dewey is bored at home with his babysitter, because he is hardly allowed to do anything exciting. But when sorting buttons together, the older lady notices that she and Dewey have some things in common. As a result, they have fun and even dance passionately in the kitchen, which ends up being driven away by an ambulance. When he drove away, Dewey followed a balloon on the street to another part of town.

At the same time, Commander Spangler challenges Francis to pool. He is preparing well for the game, but his comrades are against it, as they think Spangler would make it even harder for them in the military academy if Francis wins. Therefore, Francis deliberately plays worse, which the commandant notices and therefore deliberately plays worse. During several games, they outperform each other with increasingly poor moves, which is why it doesn't matter who won or lost.
