The Mallertshofer Lake is a 5.6  hectare large quarry pond in the town of Oberschleissheim in the district of Munich .

geography

Mallertshofer See is located about 13 km north of the historic city center of Munich and borders the Mallertshofer Holz nature reserve . The federal highway 13 , which is called Ingolstädter Landstrasse there, runs 200 meters to the west . To the south is the Garching industrial area . As a so-called sky pond, the lake has no surface inflow or outflow, but is fed exclusively by precipitation and penetrating groundwater .

history

Until the 20th century the area was agricultural land, which until 1880 was cultivated from the medieval Dreiseithof Maletshofen 300 m north . Today this is only preserved as a desert , but gave the lake its name. There is still the local chapel of St. Martin, protected as a monument . In the 1970s, agriculture was restricted because the pending post-glacial gravel deposits were extracted in the open pit . After the site was exploited, only the northern half of the resulting gravel pit was backfilled with garbage of unclear origin and excavation, and the lake was created.

Nature was largely left to its own devices, the lake is a protected landscape area and the area north and east of the lake was rededicated as a nature reserve from 1995.

Todays use

Today the area is used for local recreation. Camping by the lake is expressly prohibited, as is open fires. The surrounding meadows and forest strips are not regularly cultivated or cleared, so that some areas are difficult to see. This suits the friends of nudism , for whom the Mallertshofer See is an insider tip and is unanimously used as a bathing lake with textile recreation seekers.
