Mamadou Chérif Dia gained his first international experience in 2006 at the African Championships in Bambous , where he finished 15th with a long jump of 7.09 m. The following year he took part in the Africa Games in Algiers for the first time , where he finished seventh with 7.75 m and then retired at the Summer Universiade in Bangkok without a valid attempt in qualifying. In 2010 he reached sixth place at the African Championships in Nairobi with a width of 7.73 m and in 2012 he was eighth in the African Championships in Porto-Novo with 7.35 m and 15.69 m respectively in the long and triple jump. The following year he finished eighth in the long jump at the Francophonie Games in Nice with 7.58 m and placed eleventh in the triple jump with 15.70 m. At the 2014 African Athletics Championships in Marrakech , he made it into the final in the long jump, where he finished eleventh with 7.11 m.
In 2015 he again took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville , where he was fourth in the long jump with 7.43 m and won the bronze medal in the triple jump with a width of 16.55 m behind the two Nigerians Tosin Oke and Olu Olamigoke . The following year he finished sixth in the triple jump at the African Championships in Durban with 16.29 m and also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 16.45 m. In 2017 he finished fourth at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku with 16.29 m and then won the bronze medal at the Francophonie Games with 16.59 m behind Hugues Fabrice Zango and Kevin Luron from France. In 2018 he finished fourth at the African Championships in Asaba with 16.44 m and at the African Games the following year in Rabat he was fifth with 16.14 m.
