Maman and Me is a 2013 French film . The plot is based on the life experiences of Guillaume Gallienne , who first wrote the play, then the film, and directed the filming and took on the two main roles.

Guillaume is the youngest son of a spirited upper-class woman. He admires his mother very much, who treats him like a girl. In fact, unlike his sports-loving brothers, he is a rather feminine boy. It is characteristic of the way the mother calls her children to dinner: “Boys and Guillaume, at table!” (This is also the original French title of the film: Les garçons et Guillaume, à table!) Young Guillaume likes to dress up as Empress Sisi and loves Sevillana .
Ultimately, his parents send him to an English boarding school, where he falls in love with his classmate Jeremy. This love, however, remains unrequited, and as a result Guillaume sees himself for the first time as a man and not as a woman.
When he tries to evade military service, he is advised to undergo psychoanalysis. After a spa vacation in the Bavarian mountains, Guillaume received the advice from a friend of the family: "One day you will fall in love: Either with a man - then you are gay, or with a woman - then you are heterosexual." She advises him to try out one's sexuality; in fact, the shy guy goes to a gay nightclub and escorts a man home. But Guillaume's first attempt fails. When he finally faces a "well-hung" young Russian naked, he realizes that he has always feared horses and deals with this fear. The film ends with dinner with a friend, to which she invites Guillaume as the only man ("Les filles et Guillaume à table!"). There he falls in love with a woman, his future wife Amandine. Finally he tries to explain to his mother what the state of affairs is.
Origin and production
The film is an adaptation of the autobiographical play of the same name, in which Gallienne played all the roles. The film adaptation, in which he only took on the roles of Guillaume and his mother, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was shown in French cinemas from November 20, 2013; The German premiere was on June 5, 2014. The German actress Diane Kruger made a cameo as a colon therapist. Götz Otto plays a masseur.
The English title is Me, Myself & Mum , the Italian Tutto suo madre .
The film was released on DVD and BLU-RAY at the end of 2014. The DVD contains a 40 minute making of. The French, limited BLU-RAY 3 disc box also contains a recording of the French stage version (DVD).

On the occasion of the German film release with the title Maman und ich , Rowohlt published a paperback book with the text of the play in 2014 (translation: Karolina Fell). The German movie poster was used on the cover.
On June 17, 2016, the first French-language new production took place in the CREPS de St-Denis on the island of Reunion.
The German-language premiere, which was produced using the German film title Maman und ich , premiered on September 30, 2016 in the Berlin theater O-TonArt.
