Mandy Marie Brigitte Bujold (born July 25, 1987 in Cobourg , Ontario ) is a Canadian boxer .

Career

Mandy Bujold won her first Canadian championships in 2007 in flyweight (up to 51 kg). She was able to repeat this success in the years 2009 to 2015.

In 2007 Bujold won the Pan-American championships for the first time in Durán . She achieved the same in Port of Spain in 2008 and in Brasília in 2010 .

In 2008, Bujold took part in the World Championships in Ningbo for the first time and was eliminated after defeating Stella Soares, Brazil (7: 2), in the round of 16 against Li Siyuan, China (13: 3). Her next participation in a world championship came in 2010 . This time she lost her first fight against the North Korean Hyung-Ok Kim (8: 5).

Bujold celebrated her first major success at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara . Here she won the gold medal with a final victory over Ingrid Valencia, Colombia (11: 5). However, she could not repeat this success at the World Championships in 2012 and lost in the first fight against Hye-Song Kim, North Korea (8: 6).

In 2014 Bujold took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won the bronze medal after a semi-final defeat against Nicola Adams , England (3-0). In the same year, she also took part in the World Championships for the fourth time in Jeju . This time she won her first two fights against Kim Ye-Ji, Korea (3-0), and Lin Yu-Ting, Taipei (2-1), before beating Lisa Whiteside , England (2-0) in the quarter-finals , retired.

In 2015, Bujold celebrated her greatest success to date by winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games. In the final, she defeated Marlen Esparza , USA , with 2-1 votes by the judges. With this success behind her, she took part in the American Olympic qualification tournament in Buenos Aires in 2016 , which she was able to win and thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Participation in the world championships in the same year ended in the preliminary round against Sandra Drabik, Poland (2: 1).
