Manfred Eder

Manfred Ludwig Eder (born December 19, 1958 in Deggendorf ) is a German Catholic theologian . He has been Professor of Church History at the University of Osnabrück since 2002 .

Life

From 1978 to 1986 Eder studied Latin, Catholic religious studies and history at the University of Regensburg for teaching at grammar schools . From 1987 to 1990 he was a research assistant at the Chair for Church History of the Danube Region at the University of Regensburg. In 1991 he received his doctorate there with the dissertation Die Deggendorfer Gnad. Origin and development of a host pilgrimage in the context of theology and history to become a doctor of theology . The work, which was rated summa cum laude and awarded the Ostbayern Culture Prize for special scientific achievements, was published in 1992 by Passavia-Verlag. In the same year, the Regensburg Bishop Manfred Müller , due to the publication of Eder, caused the Deggendorfer Gnad , an annual host pilgrimage, to be stopped with a request for forgiveness.

In 1991 Eder became a research assistant at the Chair for Church History of the Danube Region and from 1993 at the Chair for Middle and New Church History with Karl Hausberger at the University of Regensburg. For Hausberger, together with Anton Landersdorfer , he gave the Festschrift Christen in Bayern - Christians from Bavaria. Biographical aspects and perspectives through 15 centuries on the occasion of his 65th birthday. In 1997 he completed his habilitation with the habilitation thesis Helfen does not make you poorer. In the same year he was appointed Senior Scientific Assistant at the Chair for Middle and New Church History at the University of Regensburg and in 1998 he was appointed private lecturer . Since the summer semester of 1999 he has been teaching for three semesters at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Bamberg with lectures on the Middle Ages and modern times. In 2002 he accepted the chair for church history at the Institute for Catholic Theology at the University of Osnabrück and has been its director since November 1, 2017. He is also a lecturer at the University of Vechta .

As an author, Eder writes for the Neue Deutsche Biographie , the Lexikon für Theologie und Kirche , the Theologische Realenzyklopädie , the Biographisch-Bibliographische Kirchenlexikon and the Historisches Lexikon Bayerns . He is also a reviewer for the Zeitschrift für Kirchengeschichte , the Theologische Revue and the Theologische Literaturzeitung . Eder is a board member of the Association for Regensburg Diocese History.
