from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Ertel (* 1950 in Hamburg ) was a long-time political journalist for the news magazine Der Spiegel and chairman of the supervisory board of Hamburger SV . He is currently a book author, speaker and political advisor. He is a partner at Nordlys Consulting , a consultancy for political and economic relations between Hamburg and Copenhagen , Denmark and Scandinavia .

Training and professional positions

The man from Hamburg trained as a publishing clerk and completed an editorial traineeship . Ertel was active as a youth and until the 1980s in the peace and anti-nuclear power movement and was a member of Amnesty International . Professionally, he went through a career as an editor for the Lübecker Nachrichten , at the German Press Agency in the regional service north and at the European service. Since July 1977 he has been editor of the news magazine DER SPIEGEL . He was u. a. political correspondent in the capital city office, head of the North editorial team in Kiel and Schwerin and most recently Greece and Scandinavia expert in the international department. Among other things, he was concerned with issues such as compensation for Nazi forced laborers and German compensation issues. As an investigative journalist, he uncovered the Barschel affair in SPIEGEL and took part in research on the submarine affair , the party donation scandal and Stasi documents . In 2012 he and a SPIEGEL team were awarded the prestigious Henri Nannen Journalism Prize for documenting Greece's path into the euro crisis . He ended his journalistic work at SPIEGEL in 2017.

Worked for Hamburger SV

Manfred Ertel has been a HSV fan since childhood and saw his club's first game against Burnley FC in 1961 . Ertel has been moderating on Hamburger SV's Supporters TV since 1999 . In March 2011, he played a key role in the dismissal of the HSV board member Bernd Hoffmann after a vote against Hoffmann's contract extension. On January 21, 2013, Manfred Ertel was elected chairman of the supervisory board at the association's general meeting, replacing entrepreneur Alexander Otto . He was previously a member of the supervisory board. Ertel stressed that during his tenure, he would continue the structures, tradition and successes of the Bundesliga club, continue to drive membership determination, and was involved in approving the transfer of midfielder Rafael van der Vaart . Ertel sees the HSV in its function as a traditional club and popular universal sports club as a "trademark of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg". An investor model was rejected with the argument that “the club's player material should not be pledged”. His Facebook entry " FC Bayern before the next hammer transfer: Hoeness to JVA Munich ." Caused negative headlines. For a long time there were tensions within the supervisory board between the factions of Manfred Ertel and Jürgen Hunke , which permanently damaged the reputation of the football club. In February 2014, the supervisory board members Manfred Ertel, Hans-Ulrich Klüver, Marek Erhardt, Ali Eghbal and Björn Floberg resigned due to massive criticism. Previously, the general meeting of January 19, 2014 had refused to discharge Ertel and the supervisory board he led for the previous term of office. Ertel has not held an office at HSV since his resignation, but continues to influence club politics. An application made by Ertel to “take every possible step so that the chairman of the supervisory board of HSV Fußball AG is replaced by the president of HSV e. V. is clothed ”was rejected by the general meeting on January 25, 2015 with a large majority. Numerous speakers criticized Ertel, some of them sharp.
