Manfred Gerwing
Manfred Gerwing (born April 27, 1954 in Havixbeck near Münster i. Westf.) Is a Catholic theologian . He teaches as a professor for dogmatics and the history of dogmas at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt .
Live and act
Manfred Gerwing studied Catholic theology , philosophy, history and sociology in Münster and at the Ruhr University Bochum and passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools (secondary level I / II) in 1979. In 1985 he received an interdisciplinary dissertation on the subject of spirituality in the Middle Ages as Dr. phil. (Supervisors: Ferdinand Seibt and Ludwig Hödl ) doctorate. The work, published in 1986 by Oldenbourg Verlag , Munich, was awarded the Fritz Theodor Epstein Prize (prize for excellent dissertations) in Frankfurt am Main in 1988. From 1985 to 1986 he was a trainee lawyer in Essen and passed the second state examination in philology in 1986. For a few years he was teaching at the BMV girls' high school in Essen .
From 1980 to 1985 Manfred Gerwing was a research assistant at the chair for dogmatics and the history of dogma (Ludwig Hödl) of the Catholic Theological Faculty at the Ruhr University in Bochum. In 1988 he became a university assistant at the chair for dogmatics and the history of dogma at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He held this position until 1990 he was appointed full professor for the history of the theology of marriage and family at the International Academic Institute for Marriage and Family, Kerkrade (NL). In 1995 he completed his habilitation at the Ruhr University Bochum in the subject of dogmatics and the history of dogma with a thesis on the end of time ( eschatology ). He held his habilitation lecture on April 21, 1995 on the importance of medieval studies for systematic theology .
Since 1996 Gerwing worked at the Institute for Teacher Training in Mülheim an der Ruhr , first as a lecturer for systematic theology and religious education , and finally as the scientific director of the facility. In 2002 he was appointed to the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , which he accepted in 2003. Here he is dean of the theological faculty. In July 2019 he was retired as scientific director of the Institute for Teacher Training.
Gerwing's particular research focus is the history of theology and dogma, as well as the double testimony of faith and the knowledge of faith of the Church in the European Middle Ages.
Gerwing is married and has three children.
