Manfred J. Holler

Manfred J. Holler (* 25. July 1946 in Munich ) is a German economist and Emeritus Professor of Economics (Economics) at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Manfred J. Holler attended primary school on Ostpreußenstrasse in Munich from 1952 to 1956 and the Maria-Theresia-Gymnasium in Munich from 1956 to 1966 .

From 1966 to 1968 he studied economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1968 to 1969 he studied law at the University of Lausanne . From 1969 to 1971 he continued his studies in economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, which he graduated in June 1971 with a degree in economics (Dipl.-Vw.). From 1972 to 1974 Holler studied political science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

In July 1975 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. pole.

From 1976 to 1984 Manfred J. Holler was employed as a research assistant in the economics department of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he obtained his habilitation (Dr. rer. Pol. Habil. And private lecturer ) in November 1984 .

1986-1991 he taught as an Associate Professor at Aarhus University in Denmark . In September 1991 he was appointed full university professor (C 4) for economic theory (and social policy ) at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Hamburg. He retired in autumn 2011, but is still a member of the University of Hamburg. Since 2008 he has also been a Senior Researcher at the Public Choice Research Center at the University of Turku in Finland .

He is Founding Editor of the European Journal of Political Economy and was the editor-in-chief of this journal from 1985 to 1993. For almost thirty years, with an interruption of two years, he has been responsible for the publication of the quarterly journal HOMO OECONOMICUS .

Research priorities

Holler's research interests include game theory , industrial economics , law and economics, and labor market theory. One focus is work on power indices. Holler introduced the so-called Public Good Index (also known as Holler Index or Holler-Packel Index) into the literature.
