Manfred Liebscher (born November 18, 1930 in Holzhau ; † July 4, 2014 in Rüdersdorf near Berlin ) was a German author , criminalist and archivist as well as lieutenant colonel of the GDR Ministry for State Security .

Life

Before and during the Second World War, Liebscher grew up with his grandmother in a village in the Ore Mountains. At the age of twelve he was given as a farmhand to a farmer in a neighboring village. He ran away from this after being treated unjustly. Later he learned the trade of a saddler . After completing his apprenticeship, he worked in an upholstery shop . When this was closed, he went to Bismut as a miner .

At the age of 18 he applied for police service. He came to the NVA via the barracked People's Police . There he rose to senior lieutenant and worked in a military district command . At the workers 'and farmers' faculty , he acquired the special qualification to study forestry . Due to a congenital hip dislocation , however, he could not take up the forest worker training required as a basis for the forestry profession.

In 1958 the Ministry of State Security recruited him. From 1959 worked in its investigative department, first in Karl-Marx-Stadt and from 1960 in Berlin on the investigation of military crimes. Later he worked in the NS archives of the Stasi on the investigation of Nazi and war crimes . When this archive was transferred to the Federal Archives in Koblenz after German reunification , it was only taken over for a short time. As a research assistant in the State Council of the GDR , he was awarded the " Labor Banner " Level III order in 1987 .

In Gisela Karau's stasi protocols. Liebscher was one of the 13 interviewees in discussions with former employees of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR . As a pensioner, Liebscher began writing - initially only for the grandchildren. His autobiography In the Paradise of Memories ... was published in three editions. He wrote the preface for questions to the MfS (edition-ost, 2010).
