Manfred Neumann (painter)

Manfred Neumann (* 1938 in Groß Weißensee ) is a contemporary German painter and draftsman .

Career

Neumann was born in 1938 in Groß Weißensee , East Prussia . After the war he completed an apprenticeship as a painter from 1952 to 1955 . He then studied first until 1959 at the Technical College for Applied Arts in Wismar-Heiligendamm and from 1959 to 1964 at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . He worked as a freelance artist from 1966 . He has been working in Frankfurt (Oder) (Land Brandenburg ) since the 1980s .

He was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBK) and from 1990 to 1997 of the Brandenburg Association of Visual Artists.

From 1973 to 2008 he took part in ten international artist meetings ( pleinairs ) on both sides of the Oder . With the exhibition "Encounters" in Słubice , Poland , he said goodbye to the artist meetings in June 2014.

After premises in Frankfurt's Ferdinandstrasse and Gerstenberger Höfe, the city offered him a 900 square meter studio in the former consumer (department store) on Berliner Strasse, which he moved into in 2016. There are more than 1000 art objects that have not yet been sold or given to galleries.

Works

Manfred Neumann uses various techniques. In addition to paintings , graphics and drawings he created stained glass , collage , paint grindings, monotypes , felt carpets, wooden objects , gypsum - inlaid and - sculptures , assemblages , replicates and transfers. You hang u. a. in the Oderland Museum and in the Oderbruch Museum Bad Freienwalde ; in the painting collection of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences ; in the municipal gallery Eisenhüttenstadt ; in the Gerhart Hauptmann Museum (Erkner) ; in the Dresden University of Fine Arts and in Frankfurt Oder in the Viadrina Museum , in the Kleist Museum , the Artothek , the Chamber of Industry and Commerce , the Sparkasse Oder-Spree or in city buildings. Furthermore, many are privately owned.

In the motifs and portraits from East Brandenburg his "East Prussian-North German attitude ... comes into play - respect for the work of the other person". As a basis for the portraits of the old masters, it is certified that he is a "calm listener".

With his 200 to 300 portraits of the city's personalities alone , he has earned the title of chronicler of the Oderstadt.

His works of art also include a portrait or an adaptation of Michael Praetorius (Acryl, 2012), which he gave to the city of Frankfurt (Oder) on the occasion of the entry in the Golden Book .
