Manfred Pohlmann

Manfred Pohlmann (born August 19, 1955 in Bendorf ) is a German songwriter . He is considered a well-known representative of the Moselle Franconian dialect music . His other repertoire also includes songs in German and French . Traditional songs and settings of his father's poems form the basis of his repertoire . Between 1973 and 2015 Pohlmann performed more than 2,600 appearances in Germany , France , Luxembourg , Belgium , Austria , Italy and Switzerland , where he worked with artists such as Hanns-Dieter Hüsch , Alan Stivell , the 17 Hippies , Ted Herold , Joana , Bernd Witthüser , Bill Ramsey and Toni Vescoli worked together. Pohlmann is a member of the Bosener Gruppe , an association of writers who write literary dialect texts.

Life

Manfred Pohlmann was born in 1955 as the son of the local poet Fritz Pohlmann. He spent his childhood in Bendorf- Sayn . From 1970 he completed a typesetter apprenticeship at the Bendorfer Zeitung.

On July 29, 1973 he made his first public appearance with Harald Becker with international folk and German songwriting repertoire. At the first concerts they called each other "Becker & Pohlmann".

In 1977 Becker and Pohlmann founded the "Edelzwicker" group, which lasted until 1987. With their program "Songs from Germany and France", which included German and French songs as well as Alsatian songs, they played over 300 concerts at home and abroad and released a single and two long-playing records . In addition to other occasions, on the occasion of a benefit concert in Sayn in 1997 and Pohlmann's 30th stage anniversary in 2003, even after the group broke up, there were joint public appearances.

From 1983 Pohlmann played with Bub Meurer, Toni Steffens and Dirko Juchem in the Moselle Franconian folk rock group “Waremnet?”, Which split up in 1987.

One person who was important for Pohlmann's musical life is his former youth idol Roger Siffer . Pohlmann has been working with Siffer since 1997. Among other things, the programs “Madam 'la Republik” and “Papa Rhein” emerged from this. Joint duo performances are also on the schedule.

In 1998 Pohlmann received the Burgen / Mosel community's culture award, the “Burgener Rebstock”.

Manfred Pohlmann was awarded the culture prize of the city of Bendorf in October 2018 at a ceremony in the Krupp'schen Halle on the monument area of ​​the Sayner hut.

Onnerweschs ( On the way - Chemin faisant )

Manfred Pohlmann has been on the road with his Moselle Franconian chanson program "Onnerweschs" since 1988 . He gave over 1000 concerts with this program and was invited to numerous radio and TV productions. He has produced three CDs with this program. Pohlmann sings of life on and on the Rhine or of stories that only exist transfigured in memories.

Mannijo ( Lidder iwer d'Grenzen - Chansons transfrontières - Songs about borders )

Pohlmann and his friend and rock singer Jo Nousse and Patrick Riolett sing and play songs together with traditional music in German and French, but mostly in Franconian (Moselle Franconian and Luxembourgish, their mother tongues). There are also some songs in Catalan, Yiddish, Occitan, Corsican, Alsatian and Breton. Mannijo's song program is accompanied by mostly acoustic instruments. By 2010 the trio had made more than 200 appearances in Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria.

If Freddy only knew ...

This program includes German hits from the years 1957–1963, for example by Freddy Quinn , Bill Ramsey, Caterina Valente , Trude Herr and others. Pohlmann's longtime friend and colleague Dirko Juchem is his musical accompaniment on this program. In between, Pohlmann tells stories about these songs, about this time and current affairs, about himself and also about the singers who sang these songs back then.

Papa Rhine

“Papa Rhein” is a mixture of sketches and songs from different directions: from folk songs to Prince Pastiche, from Valentin to Degenhardt, from Presley to Germain Muller from Alsace and “siner Rhynn”. The texts that Huguette Dreikaus wrote especially for the show make fun of the neighbor in German, French, Alsatian, Moselle Franconian, Yiddish and English. “Papa Rhein” is about cities, but also about professions, for example the gold washer (a street in Strasbourg still bears his name today). Songs and texts are reminiscent of raftsmen , wine transport, ships of fools , pilgrimages and robber barons . Some songs were written especially for the show (Lavoir, Croisère) or translated (Lauf Muller, Schinderhannes). There are ballads from the 15th century (St. Jacob) and war songs ( Wacht am Rhein ), love songs and mocking songs.

We are bound by love, we are bound by need

Manfred Pohlmann sings songs of freedom and songs of work. From the workers' song “ Brothers, to the sun, to freedom ” to the freedom song “ The thoughts are free ” you will find well-known songs like Boris Vian's “ Le déserteur ”, the traditional “Leineweberlied” or Bertolt Brecht's “ Solidarity song ”. Lesser known workers' songs and newly written songs complete the program.
