Manfred Vosz

Manfred Vosz (born October 4, 1935 - † February 16, 2014 in Düsseldorf ) was a German film director , screenwriter , producer and visual artist .

Training as a freelance painter - activities as a journalist and film director

Vosz first studied graphic design at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal and then free painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In the 1960s he lived as a freelance painter in Munich . He won several competitions, but shifted his main activity towards journalism and film . In 1965 he published the literary magazine Kürbiskern together with Hannes Stütz , joined the “Syndicate of Filmmakers” in Munich, and the first films of his own were made, such as the German Church Fair and City Guide for Bonn and the surrounding area . From 1972 to 2000 he taught at the art college in Kassel . He was appointed professor of film and television.

Then Vosz became involved in film politics with the Düsseldorf filmmakers . In 1980 he was one of the founders of the North Rhine-Westphalia film office . He was a member of the board of directors of the film office from 1980 to 1981 and 1986 to 1992. The film office of North Rhine-Westphalia influenced the development of cultural film funding. For the documentary film Goethe in D. Vosz received the German Film Prize in 1986 .

Between 1989 and 1999 Vosz taught at the International College for Film and Television (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños , Cuba . He ran an international workshop for documentary film.

In 1989 he directed documentary film workshops for the Goethe Institutes in Buenos Aires , Caracas , Mexico City , Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte , as well as in La Paz . In 2002 he curated the exhibition The New Iranian Film for the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (IFA) in Stuttgart and Bonn .
