The Marc Cain GmbH is founded in 1973 by German fashion company based in Bodelshausen .

Company history

The company was founded in 1973 by Helmut Schlotterer in Carpi , Italy . The name can be traced back to a Canadian friend named Marc Cain , whom the founder and owner Helmut Schlotterer met there in the early 1970s. The headquarters was then a few years later after Bodelshausen in Baden-Wuerttemberg laid, where the company still resides. At first Marc Cain only produced knitwear, later a full range was built up. A new logistics center has been in operation since spring 2015. Marc Cain has its origins in knitting. This is still one of the core competencies today. Further typical for Marc Cain are animal photographs and especially the Leo, which can be found in every Marc Cain collection and is constantly reinterpreted in the designs.

production

knitting

Marc Cain's knitting machine park is considered to be the most modern in Europe. Marc Cain invested in electronically controlled knitting machines as early as the 1970s, making him a pioneer in this area. A large part of the knitwear is manufactured directly in the production rooms at the Bodelshausen site. Production runs 24 hours on weekdays in three shifts .

3D knitting process

In 2013 a new process was introduced which is described as "3-D Knit & Wear". Garments (e.g. sweaters, skirts, cardigans and coats with knitted pockets) are knitted in a 3D knitting process in one work step, i.e. a finished product comes out of the knitting machine. Different designs are possible , from plain knit , rib , knitted lengthways and crossways to cable patterns with a hand knit look or jacquard pattern , as well as combinations of different types of knitting. The entire production and processing takes place at the headquarters in Bodelshausen.

printing house

In 1998/1999, Marc Cain was one of the first in the textile industry to take advantage of the then new technology of digital printing . As a trailblazer for the new technology, all machines and systems were specially made for Marc Cain and later expanded. With digital printing, different materials such as B. cotton , leather , linen , wool or knitwear can be printed directly at the company's headquarters. Marc Cain uses specially manufactured reactive dyes for this. This is a special class of dyes that can be used to create particularly bright, brilliant prints. Marc Cain has been producing its inks exclusively since 2007, specifically tailored to the internal production process. The dye not only lies on the surface of the fiber, but also forms a permanent bond with the fiber. This means that the print cannot tear or break and the feel of the knitted fabric is retained.

laboratory

Marc Cain has its own quality assurance laboratory where all materials are put to the test. In the extensive process about 31,000 tests are performed (including pilling behavior, light fastness , water fastness ).
