The Grünwald circuit was a circuit for the men's road race as part of the cycling competitions at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . The team time trial, on the other hand, took place on Autobahn 95 .

Route

The Grünwald circuit was a total of 22.8 km, in total it had to be driven eight times during the race, which resulted in a total distance of 182.4 km. Overall, the circuit had a difference in altitude of around 210 meters.

The start and finish were in Grünwald at the Tölzer / Zugspitzstrasse intersection . From there, the course ran with a slight incline in a southerly direction through the Grünwald forest to the community of Straßlach , which had to be passed through. In the further course, it went through the district of Hailafing past the grounds of the Munich Golf Club to Beigarten . This was followed by a longer descent along the local Marienkapelle and after 9 kilometers the Isar was crossed at the Gasthaus zum Brückenfischer . Now it went uphill again along the monastery , over the serpentines of the Schäftlarner Berg after 12 km into the center of Schäftlarn , where the drivers turned right into Münchner Strasse in front of the train station . From there it went on along the federal road 11 through Baierbrunn and the Buchenhain district . After 19.5 km they reached the Höllriegelskreuth-Grünwald train station and crossed the Isar again over the Grünwalder bridge at the Brückenwirt . Via Emil-Geis-Straße , past Grünwald Castle , the course led back to Tölzer Straße to the start and finish.
