Marc Demuth

Marc Demuth (born January 4, 1978 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourgish jazz musician ( electric bass , double bass , composition .

Live and act

Demuth received lessons at the Conservatory in Luxembourg City . He then completed the diploma course for electric bass and jazz double bass at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Michel Hatzigeorgiou and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, as well as the bachelor's and master's degree at the Koninklijk Conservatory in The Hague with Hein van de Geyn and Frans van der Hoeven.

Demuth has been playing in a trio with Michel Reis and Paul Wiltgen since 1998 . In 2000 he toured the Benelux, Germany and France with the World Youth Choir. In 2004 he was selected to represent Luxembourg for the European Jazz Orchestra on its tour through Europe and Brazil. From 2003 to 2010 he worked with the Portuguese singer Sofia Ribeiro on various projects. Together with the vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher , the clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst and the drummer Yves Peeters, he led a collaborative quartet. He also played with musicians such as Michael Brecker , Kenny Werner , Slide Hampton , Joshua Redman , Hein van de Geyn, Florian Weber , Jef Neve , John Ruocco , Guy Cabay , Jacques Pirotton, Phil Abraham and Félix Simtaine . He has performed at many different festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival , Brussels Jazz Marathon , Cully Jazz Festival , Bingen swingt or the North Sea Jazz Festival .

Demuth heads the jazz department at the Echternach Music School, where he also teaches electric bass, double bass and jazz ensembles.

Prizes and awards

In 1996 Demuth won a scholarship to study electric bass at Berklee College of Music . In 2001 he received the prize for the best soloist at the annual Rotary Jazz Competition in Wavre . In 2004 he was awarded first prize and the audience prize at the Tremplin Jazz Competition in Avignon with the Pascal Schumacher Quartet. In 2010 his project with Sofia Ribeiro won first prize in the Crest Vocal Jazz Contest .
