Marc Hemmeler

Marc Hemmeler (born May 16, 1938 in Lyon ; † August 27, 1999 in Auch ( Midi-Pyrénées )) was a Swiss jazz pianist .

Live and act

Marc Hemmeler, an autodidact pianist , ran a band together with Jo Gagliardi in 1959 . In 1960 he moved to Paris , where he accompanied Johnny Hallyday for four years . In 1964 he became resident pianist at the Blue Note jazz club , where he formed a trio with Jimmy Gourley and Kenny Clarke to accompany soloists such as Stan Getz , Harry Edison , Eddie Lockjaw Davis and René Thomas . He later worked at the Bilboquet . From 1969 he was a companion of Stéphane Grappelli for more than a decade , with whom he toured and recorded several albums ( Afternoon in Paris ). In 1973 he performed with Bill Coleman and Guy Lafitte at the Montreux Jazz Festival ( Mainstream at Montreux ).

The critics particularly praised his trio and duo albums, which were created in the 1980s. He was also involved in recordings by Gérard Badini , Babik Reinhardt , Benny Waters and Marcel Zanini . In the early 1990s he withdrew from the jazz scene.
