Marc Miralta

Marc Miralta (* 1966 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish jazz musician ( drums , percussion ).

Miralta began playing drums at the age of seven, and at the age of eleven he received classical drums lessons from Pau Bombardó; he also learned tabla , cajón and vibraphone . From 1980 to 1984 he was enrolled at the Escuela de Música Zeleste in Barcelona, ​​then at the Upper Municipal Music Conservatory and with Taller de Música de Barcelona , before studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1990 to 1993 .

Miralta has performed in the field of classical music with the youth orchestra of the European Union under the direction of Claudio Abbado , with the Vallès Symphony Orchestra and with other symphony orchestras from Barcelona and Catalonia.

Miralta has worked internationally with jazz musicians such as Pat Metheny , Gary Burton , Wynton Marsalis , Steve Lacy , Paquito D'Rivera , Tete Montoliu , Jeanne Lee , George Garzone , Jerry Bergonzi , Mark Turner and Joshua Redman . In the field of flamenco jazz he worked with Perico Sambeat , Chano Domínguez , Gerardo Núñez and Esperanza Fernández . He also accompanied the Flamenco Company of Carmen Cortés . He conducted his New York Flamenco Reunion and his Marc Miralta Quartet with Seamus Blake on saxophone, Ed Simon on piano and Omer Avital on double bass; he recorded with both bands. He also played in a trio with Aaron Goldberg and Omer Avital and with Javier Colina and Perico Sambeat, with whom several albums were created. He is involved in more than fifty phonograms and a large number of television programs.

Miralta taught drums at the Taller de Músics before giving drum courses internationally. He is currently teaching percussion and vibraphone at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona.
