Marcel Herriot

Marcel Paul Herriot (born May 18, 1934 in Moussey , Département Vosges , France , † September 14, 2017 in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges , France) was Bishop of Soissons .

Life

Marcel Herriot studied humanities at the Université de Lorraine and Catholic theology at the diocesan seminary in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges . He was ordained a priest on April 18, 1960 . After pastoral work, he completed a degree in catechetical pastoral care at the Institut Catholique de Paris . He became diocesan director for schools in 1966. In 1976 he took over diocesan responsibility as episcopal vicar.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Verdun on May 25, 1987 . He was ordained episcopate on June 28th of the same year by the Bishop of Lille , Jean Vilnet ; Co - consecrators were Paul-Marie Guillaume , Bishop of Saint-Dié , and Pierre Boillon , Bishop Emeritus of Verdun.

On April 29, 1999, Pope John Paul II called him Bishop of Soissons. Pope Benedict XVI On February 22, 2008, he accepted his resignation due to health reasons.

In the French Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Catechetic and Catechumenical Commission.
