Marco Aurélio Brito Dos Prazeres (born December 15, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro ), also known as Mehmet Aurelio , is a former Turkish soccer player and today's soccer coach of Brazilian origin.
Career
In the club
In Rio de Janeiro, Aurélio played for Bangu AC , Flamengo Rio de Janeiro (1995 to 2000) and Olaria AC (2001) before moving to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig in 2001 . While two compatriots who came with him had to leave quickly, Aurélio was able to convince the Turks: he played two seasons in Trabzon and scored 15 goals in 64 games. In 2002/03 he won the Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor.
For the 2003/04 season Aurélio moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul . His first game for the new employer was a friendly against SV Waldhof Mannheim on July 16, 2003, his first competitive game was on August 10, 2003 against İstanbulspor . In his first season at Fenerbahçe, he won the championship with the Istanbul club in 2004 . Aurélio played for Fenerbahçe in all but one in the league and one in the UEFA Cup next season . The team defended their championship title. In summer 2008 Aurélio moved to Betis Sevilla . In April 2009 he was sentenced to pay Fenerbahçe a fine of 4 million euros, the reason for this was that Fenerbahçe had made use of the unilateral option to extend his contract, but Aurélio left the club anyway. After two years, Aurélio returned to Istanbul. He moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul for free and signed a two-year contract. The contract, which expired in summer 2012, was not extended and Aurélio was from now on without a club until he signed a contract with Olaria AC in his native Brazil in March 2013 .
In the national team
Aurélio was never used in the Brazilian national team . He took on Turkish citizenship in 2006 and made his debut on August 16, 2006 in the game against Luxembourg in the Turkish national team . On September 12, 2007 he scored his first international goal against Hungary . He is the first non-Turkish national player and goalscorer of Turkey . In 2007 he was voted Turkey's best national player . He also took part in the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland .
