from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marco Pino (* around 1525 in Siena , † around 1587 in Naples ) was an Italian mannerist painter .

Life

Marco Pino (also known as Marco dal Pino , Marco di Pino or Marco da Siena ) was born in Costa al Pino (today Costalpino , about 3.5 km southwest of Siena) as the son of Giovambattista da Costalpino and was from 1537 to 1542 Domenico Beccafumi's apprentice . In 1543 he moved to Rome , where he worked with Daniele da Volterra and Perino del Vaga . With the latter he designed frescoes in the Castel Sant'Angelo .

From 1552 at the latest he was in Naples, where he soon rose to become a leading painter and, with a few interruptions, lived until his death. From February 1557 to August 1558 he created an extensive fresco decoration together with a group of helpers in Montecassino - in fact the largest commission he ever received; it was destroyed by bombing in World War II.

Marco Pino left numerous works in Naples and the surrounding area and had many students, including Fabrizio Santafede (1555–1626).
