Marcus Lycklama à Nijeholt (also Lyclama van Nyeholt ; born January 17, 1573 , † August 9, 1625 ) was a Frisian junker , lawyer and diplomat .

Life

Lycklama à Nijeholt was the son of the councilor Meine Lyckles and comes from the Lycklama à Nijeholt family . He received his first education in Leeuwarden . From 1593 he was enrolled at the University of Franeker . He continued his law studies from June 19, 1596 at the University of Heidelberg . He became a doctor of law doctorate and settled in 1597 in Leeuwarden as a lawyer down. On May 24, 1604 he became professor of the Pandects at the University of Franeker, in 1605 rector of the university and, after he renounced his professorship in 1610, he became the university's curator that year .

Lycklama à Nijeholt was from 1610 to 1624 judge of Ooststellingwerf and from 1624 to judge of Weststellingwerf . He was a member of the States General and several times envoy to diplomatic negotiations in the Netherlands. When an alliance was made with the Republic of Venice in 1620 , he was made Knight of the Order of Saint Mark for his services . He was also an envoy to the Danish royal family.
